Please Take a Gander
Did I do this right? All comments welcome before tuesday...
1) What are your ID model’s goals/objectives?
The goal of model is to properly instruct members of the marketing staff (include the necessary sub-systems such as advertising and product researching etc) to be able to incorporate knowledge of the desired target population into marketing ads and campaigns. If this is done then it becomes possible to increase revenue and increase product knowledge.
2) What is/are the goal(s) of your supra-system? Do the goal/objectives of your ID model align with the mission and goals of the supra-system?
The goal of my supra-system (a large corporation which would include a marketing department) would be to increase revenue and improve knowledge about what the corporation is offering in terms of products and services. The objectives align I believe because you can not complete the goal of the corporation unless you complete the goals of the model.
3) What will be your method of delivery – who & what provides instruction?
I believe an interesting idea would be like a group or company outing involving the marketing department including team building activities. An example of this would be if the group went paintballing or played laser tag, both in which where team building is necessary for victory. Then at some point during this weekend you could a presentation where the goals and ideas of the model would be given to the group. They then would be asked to complete another activity where these ideas would be tested to see if the group incorporated the ideas into their thinking.
4) What will be your method of instruction – instructional architecture?
My method of instruction would be a power point presentation that would break down the steps of my model so it is for everyone to follow and comprehend. During this presentation I would allow for group activities during the presentation, much like a classroom setting. I would then give a “homework” assignment for the group to complete to see if they incorporated the idea.
5) What will be your method of grouping for learning?
I would group the learning into sections so it would be easier to break down and understand. I feel it is important to break down the areas then put it together at the end so everyone would get a good understanding before putting it all together.
6) Other logistical / administrative issues or problems?
One issue might be nobody wants to work on the weekend unless they have to, but you do not want to take away from the normal work week. So I feel there would have to be some sort of compromise on scheduling. Next I am working with a corporation believing it would be in one place, however if it was spread out with offices all over it again would be hard to bring everyone together.
7) How are you going to visually represent your model?

The Instructional Problem
The Instructional Problem would be the marketing department lacks communication and survey skills to communicate with the general population in terms of selling the product or services the business if offering. If this department is off base in terms of people's thoughts and feelings, they doom the company.
An example is many people after 9/11 were pro-war, which I think led to a lot of ads involving patriotism. Now there is a divide on whether or not we should be overseas fighting in a "war" with Irag, which means pro-war ads wouldn't do so well (best example I could come up with off the top of my head).

What I forgot to bring to class... model report
Yeah so sorry I have been a disorganized mess for the last few days and as the saying goes- if my head wasn't attatched to my shoulders I would forget that to. Well here goes, have fun tearing it apart John...
Context and/or setting
The context or setting of my project will be within a marketing department of a corporation. The corporation that the marketing department is in will be a large cable corporation, such as a Comcast or cablevision. The marketing department would be in charge or advertising and marketing such things as the three products/ one price which is a common place in today’s market (internet, cable and telephone).
The role or status of the developer
The role of the developer will be a senior manager in charge of working with focus groups who represent the public and their opinions. Using these focus groups the senior manager would be able to help create and guide marketing campaigns. The developer will also work with the group or company that would be in charge of the focus group. This would allow the company or marketing department to find out what is relevant to what the marketing team is trying to develop.
Whose buying cable?
Whose buying the 3 in 1? etc
Intended Audience
The intended audience will be the marketing department who the senior manager oversees. The intended audience will also be the group in charge of running the focus group.
Purpose of the model
The purpose of the model will be to discover the gap between where the corporation wants to be in terms of sales and knowledge about the consumer. Using this information the group will be able to develop and employ new marketing and advertising plans.

Module 3
First thing, I just drove to work to complete this along with some other homework. I live literally a half mile away, and it took me 20 minutes to get here. Whats up with this place and lake effect snow. Also, the spell check doesn't seem to be working, so if anything is misspelled, I apologize.
1) The communication Models I would need to consider is video-confrencing and the way people work with their emails. Video confrencing is important because of how groups and companies work. Time is impartive so if you don't waste a day getting from point a to point b then there is more time to complete the work. Email is also important because it seems to be the way most people communicate to each other. So I would try and incorporate it as best as possible.
2) How would I address the following?
a) Knowledge step- I would incorporate and use the necaserry research to bring together all the possible research to improve and revise my project
b) Persuasion Step- Using this information I would be able to convince people of the usefulness of my ideas
c) Decision- I would allow for open communication and discussion to reach the decision
d) Implementation- I would use all the different technology at my disposale to spread the use of the project and implement it
e) I would confirm the usefulness of the idea by research and conducting surveys on areas that need improvement
3) I would nees to consider how much time and money that would be available to me to complete and implement my project. Money talks!

What are my needs or gaps when I would examine a marketing department? How much would each area cost?
- Lack of feedback from customers
- It would cost me to create a way to learn more about the customers, whether it be from surveys, or other forms of feedback
- Improve time management skills
- It would cost money for someone to come and discuss time management skills, not to mention loss of money and output initially to go through a seminar.
- Improve communication between subsystems
- I would have to hire someone to be the in between, or create or incorporate a technological system into the current system.
- Examine the various issues of the work environment, motivation, incentives etc
- I would have to hire an instructional designer lol.
To examine front end analysis I would incorporate Romi's "circle" model in considering the various factors involved with the situations.

Model Blog
Why should my eventual ID model consider using front end analysis?
Reason 1) Front end analysis of a problem sets up the rest of the project. It allows someone to put the facts together and figure out where you need to go. It also helps determine what the actual problem is. Someone might think it might be a problem with personnel but in reality its the environment the personnel are in that causes poor work.
2) It allows you to figure out what power players you need to settle the problem, assuming there is one. One can figure out if you need or subtract things from the various issues of the problem, whether it be environmental or a problem with people involved with it.
3) Finally it allows you to come back at the end to examine were you successful in solving the problem. So if I know I need 10 new doors, and I only get 8 doors, we figure out what happened and why we couldn't get the extra 2.
What can I take from chapter 6's to inform our model?
It allowed me to observe these models and help me figure out what these models did and didn't have in common. We can then build upon them, or go back and look at a certain area and examine it more carefully.

Module I- Practical Exercise II
1) For the purposes of this exercise, identify a preferred professional context for practicing instructional development.
I have selected to use a marketing department in a corporate setting as my professional context.
2) Using this professional context as a referent, identify or describe the following related terms:
A) The system being served would be a marketing department within a large corporation who works with promoting a product or a service that the corporation uses..
B) The Suprasystem within my system would be the actual corporation itself.
C) Two subsystems would be a creative team in charge of thinking of ideas to promote a product or service and a design/art team in charge of creating and "beautifying" an idea for promotion.
D) Two information systems that would or should exist would be communication with polling companies who could determine mainstream societies thought and feelings about certain issues or topics. Another information system would be the world wide web where one could research what is currently being used and or the future of marketing (I.E. Viral marketing)
E) One example of a subsystem interface would a project manager who would speak to the head of the marketing who would then speak to his or her boss who would speak to the CEO.
