Social Networking

What is a social network? A social network is a map of the relationships between individuals, indicating the ways in which they are connected through various social familiarities ranging from casual acquaintance to close familial bonds. The term was first coined in 1954 by J. A. Barnes (in: Class and Committees in a Norwegian Island Parish, "Human Relations"). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_networking

But that's what Google says. To me social networking is getting your name out there and creating opportunities for yourself. Its allowing other people to know what your capable of so if "something" ever comes up, private or professional, that person or group will think of you. Its also allowing people who already know you to learn more about you. Just recently somebody in my IDE 621 "facebooked" me. It allow me to learn more about her background just looking at her biography as opposed to asking a bunch of questions.

So here is my question to you, the reader. Do you use Myspace or Facebook, and if so what made you get started?

I personally used Facebook to stay in touch with people I went to high school with. It is an easy way to keep in close contact with someone without calling them.
